The Grand Floridian Hotel is the Ultimate Fairytale Disney Resort

The Grand Floridian Hotel is luxury, comfort, and convenience at its best.

What little girl doesn't have visions of princesses and castles dancing in her head when she looks at this beautiful resort? Oh, I know the boys enjoy it here too - but the on my four year old daughter's face was sheer delight.

Many of us are familiar with the red tile roofs and Victorian structure of this Disney flagship hotel. It joins Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Disney Yacht Club among others in the Deluxe Resort category.

Rooms at the Disney Grand Floridian

Again, the rooms are large at approximately 440 square feet - which is what is expected of the deluxe resorts. Most rooms have 2 queen beds and a daybed. A family of five will fit in one room comfortably. For six or more there are suites available in the concierge buildings.

See It From the Air

The Grand Floridian hotel itself is located out on a penninsula out in the middle of Seven Seas Lagoon. If you are flying into Orlando this shimmering masterpiece is sometimes viewable from the plane and looks incredibly tropical and inviting as it is surrounded by a beautiful body of water.

This resort is actually more spread out than it appears. There is one main building that is all concierge only rooms, and five surrounding buildings - one of which is also concierge only. So it may be a bit of a walk, just like all of the other resorts, to the monorail, restaurants and shops in the main building.

Refreshing Pools and Beaches

The pools here are fabulous and include zero entry at the main pool and a kiddie pool at the courtyard pool - both of which are good options for younger kids. And there are also white sand beaches - that give this location in central Florida a beachside feeling.

Getting Around Walt Disney World

Transportation to the Magic Kingdom theme park is via monorail and to Epcot Center with a transfer at the TTC. The Disney Bus Service takes guests everywhere else on property. With children in tow, I really love the monorail service because it takes you directly to the entrance of the park.

Restaurants at the Grand Floridian Resort

Dining options include the following 6 Restaurants:

  • 1900 Park Fare - Character Dining
  • Narcoosee's
  • Victoria and Albert's
  • Citrico's
  • Grand Floridian Cafe
  • Garden View Lounge

Kids Activities at the Grand Floridian Hotel

There is a spa and health club for mom and dad to enjoy while the kids take part in any of three kids activities (reservations and additional fees required). These include the Mouseketeer Club, the Grand Adventures in Cooking Class, and the Wonderland Tea Party.
