Disneys Pop Century Resort is for
the Fun Loving and Budget Conscious Crowd

I have always wondered about Disneys Pop Century Resort. The title is not very descriptive. It is easy to imagine what Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge might look like - but with Pop Century I just draw a blank.

This hotel is themed after the different decades of the 20th Century. Think 1960's, 1970's and so forth. Each section of the property is decorated with a different decade in mind. Sort of like a walk down memory lane.

It is the newest addition to the value category of the Disney Resorts. Because of the theme it is probably appealing to a lot of different age groups. This resort has large pools and a small lake that runs through the middle of the property.

Many Disney vacation guide books can provide descriptions of all the amenities in a level of detail that I will not go into here. The questions that I want to answer about Disneys Pop Century Resort are the sensible ones.

What is it about this Disney hotel that appeals or does not appeal to me?

Space Considerations

Knowing that this is a value resort, I would be prepared for the rooms to be smaller than at some of the other Walt Disney World Resorts. The rooms at the Pop Century are only about 260 square feet each. So living quarters will be a little tight. When my children were small this would have been a problem because we spent a lot more time in the room than we do now that they are older. It is nice to have more space if the younger kids need to take an afternoon nap and the parents and older children want to watch TV or read in another corner of the room.

However, given the travel season, it may be possible to get two adjoining rooms here for close to the same price of one room at one of the Disney's Deluxe Resorts. Of course, my family would require adjoining rooms to make the vacation worthwhile. Usually, a call to Disney reservations can help to address some of these issues.

Dining Considerations

There is no table service restaurant at Disneys Pop Century Resort - only counter service. For me this works fine now that the kids are older and can carry their own trays. But with small children it is tricky. Keeping wiggly children close at hand while juggling several meals can be stressful.

Transportation

The Disney shuttle buses service this hotel. As with any of the Disney hotels, the closer the room is to the bus stop, the more convenient it is. With younger children, hotels with a monorail may be more attractive.

Budget

In the end it might just come down to cost. The Disney World Pop Century Resort provides an avenue for discount Disney family vacations without sacrificing the benefits of being a guest of the Disney Resorts.
