Disneys Old Key West Resort Offers Space to Move! Why Be Cramped?
Somehow Disneys Old Key West Resort brings up visions of the Wild, Wild, West for me.
This couldn't be further from what it really is.
This resort is truly themed after the breezy, tropical,
sun drenched shores of the Florida Keys. It is the original
Deluxe Villa property (read: lots of room for families!).
The largest units - the two bedrooms - are a whopping 1,333 square feet!
Talk about home away from home. The following is a picture of one of the bedrooms.
It is easy to see that the pastel decor gives it a kind of "islandy" feel.
There are no high rises at Disneys Old Key West Resort.
The buildings are all only a few stories high. It reminds of a place that
I stayed in the Bahamas - once upon a time. Once again this is a good feature for families.
I remember struggling with a stroller and tons of gear. With lots of ground level choices at
this resort, being able to roll the stroller (sleeping baby and all) directly into one of
those rooms is a parents pure bliss.
The amenities are pretty standard of the Disney villas and the one and two
bedroom units have full kitchens and laundry rooms. Now don't even tell me that
no one wants to wash clothes while on their Disney vacations! Moms everywhere will
vouch for the usefulness of a washer and dryer. The ability to dry out a cold, wet bathing
suit in a flash is priceless! And what about being able to wash that favorite t-shirt that
just happens to be covered in melted chocolate ice cream? And just to beat this point into
the ground - just imagine arriving home after a relaxing holiday with suitcases full of CLEAN clothes!
Anyhow, let's talk pools. There is a "quiet" pools for each group of buildings at the Old Key West Resort.
With little kids, dreaming of soaking up the sun while reading the latest bestseller will probably remain
just that - a dream. But these smaller pools are useful when trying to squeeze in a quick swim before
heading back out to the parks.
When there are a few relaxing hours to while away, there is a main
pool at the Conch Flats Community Hall that fits the bill. And the
water slide is a hit with the kids as well.
As far as dining goes, guests on the Disney Meal Plan have both a
counter service option here and table service dining at Olivia's Cafe.
