Disney Vacation Club Rentals -
Approach With Caution!

Put simply - Disney Vacation Club rentals come in two flavors. Either you can rent directly from Disney or rent points from other Disney Vacation Club members.

Renting Directly From Disney

This option is no different than making a regular reservation. If there is any availability at the DVC timeshare properties then you can select that location for your Disney vacations. Doing it this way gives you the greatest flexibility with your plans because your cancellation policy will be the same as that afforded to other guests of the resorts.

But you will pay a premium for your stay. Usually the regular rate is higher than what DVC members pay as their annual dues. Obviously, renting points from a Disney Vacation Club owner may net you a better deal.

Renting DVC Points From Members

Disney Vacation Club rentals directly from a member may net a better deal - but it involves trust on both sides of the transaction. If you know the person from whom you are renting then this deal is probably a "no-brainer". But if you are negotiating with someone on the web that you have never met - then proceed with caution.

There are a lot of factors involved which can be seen as kind of giving up control over planning your own vacation. Only DVC members can make reservations for their own timeshare. This means that you - as the renter - will have to allow this other person to make your vacation arrangements and probably give them a deposit as well. And the cancellation policy is more strict than booking directly through Disney. At this time I believe it is 30 days before traveling and an unhappy DVC owner to boot.

There are many websites set up to facilitate Disney Vacation Club rentals - places where both buyers and sellers can meet. However, it is imperative that both parties know who they are dealing with. Check, check, and recheck references. Taking the time upfront makes all the difference.

Personally, I would only deal with someone I know or know of or go through Disney directly. Call me conservative or cautious or whatever - but I don't need the added stress.
