Is the Disney Code Obsolete?

I heard recently that the Disney code was being phased out.

I don't know if you remember, but a few years ago, it was common to receive a card in the mail from the Mouse with a little Disney World discount code listed on it. This code was good a certain percent of at a selected resort and other types of incentives.

Pretty soon people were posting these all over the internet. So before I booked one of my Disney vacations I went surfing to find a Disney code that would fit in with my plan. Only then would I call reservations to build my trip.

As of late, these codes have not been circulating. The speculation was that because of promotions like the free Disney ticket on your Birthday the codes were being phased out.

So imagine my surprise when, lo and behold, I received a card in the mail offering 40% off at one of the Disney Value Resorts or an unstated discount at one of the other resorts depending upon availability and if I booked by a certain date.

How to Get a Disney Code

So, how did I get so lucky to receive this card? Especially since I had not received any correspondence from Disney in a long, long time.

Although I cannot be certain - this is what I think happened. At the DisneyWorld.com website I recently signed up to receive the free Disney Parks Vacation Planning Guide DVD. I have not received the DVD yet but this sign up must have put my name on a mailing list of some sort.

Now the mailing that I received came from Disney Destinations and did indeed include a unique string of numbers. However, it is tied to my account there and is not "sharable".

So the best kept secret for finding Disney World vacation deals is actually very simple - sign up for the free dvd!

I have been toying with the idea of making a trip to Orlando Florida but the hotels that I wanted to stay in were a bit out of my budget at this point in time. With this special offer my vacation is no longer out of reach.

I just might be seeing you in WDW sometime soon!
